Aztec Ruins National Monument

Aztec Ruins National Monument is located on Ruins Road one half mile north of State Highway 516, in the city of Aztec, New Mexico along the Animas River. The famous dwelling, "great house," known as the "West Ruin" is three stories high and over a football field in length. The ancient dwelling had over 500 rooms, with a ceremony great kiva at one time. Both the cities of Aztec and nearby Farmington offer lodging, camping, restaurants, goods and services.

Aztec Ruins Visitor Center and Park

The Aztec Ruins National Monument Visitor Center and Park is open daily.
  • 8:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M. (September - May)
  • 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Memorial Day - Labor Day)

The visitor center and park is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day

Aztec Ruins Activities

The self-guided trail allows you to experience first hand the "great house" known as West Ruin. The self-guided trail is 1/2 mile long. The end of the trail brings you to enter the Great Kiva. The reconstructed kiva, which is over 40 feet in diameter, is the oldest and largest building of its kind.

Individuals: $5.00
The pass is good for 7 days and kids under 15 get in free.
